Thanks, astronomy is a huge area so there's always new stuff to learn and new ways to do things, even for those who've been in it years. Enjoy the site and forum.

  • Hi Betelgeuse and a HAPPY NEW YEAR. Just wanted to say 'Thank you' for all the work you put into Astronomy Central. It's a brilliant site and one I keep recommending to people I meet, particularly young aspiring astronomers. All the best for 2013. Mike

  • This moring I woke up to two bright stars in the North Eastern part of the sky. I have never seen stars this huge ever and unblinking. I immediately knew they had to be planets. I decided to google it and founded this site. Thanks Betelgeuse for the information contained on your website. More than likely it was Saturn being it was so large. There was one more equally bright but not as large. I can't wait to view again tomorrow. Thanks. Love the other info on your site as well. It would be nice if you had facebook. We could see what people are seeing from their view points around the world.

  • Thought the Horizon programme was pretty poor, and seemed to concentrate on travelling to exotic locations accompanied by an overbearing musical soundtrack - but maybe that's what viewers want/expect these days. There was an excellent 30 minute programme on the transit on radio 4 last week and also this month's Sky at Night. It's also worth looking at the 2004 Sky at Night programme which was filmed in Patrick Moore's garden when the sun shone throughout the transit which was observed and transmitted in various ways, and at different wavelengths including Hydrogen apha

I thought they put a lot of filler in there, riding in cable cars, looking for life in clouds. But it all came together somehow, relating to the transit by the end of the program I thought. Interesting when it talked about using the Venus transit as a template for exoplanets crossing their stars. Although yes you're right, not really one program that'll burn in my memory !

Hi Karl, thanks for asking first. Anyone using the forum purely to promote their own stuff on Ebay, I would class as spam and delete. But for this reason, yes it's ok to post a link...good look finding your tripod
