wow great tonight, Moon looked splendid and I managed to get back to using my telescope 4inch newtowian and saw observed Venus and Jupiter, easy to spot as so close togethter.
Marc Sounds like you did well there with your bins. I haven't seen Beehive with my 4" refractor. I think the seeing conditions where I live are really poor. Think I need to head for some area well away from towns and airports.
M13 The Hercules Cluster is now climbing from the east after dark. A superb globular, a ball of over a million stars just 145 light years across. It also looks fantastic in binoculars, especially from a dark site :-)
hi Marc..seems like you have viewing problems too ...i live in the country and 5 mins drive from the sea.. and you would think thats a great spot to be in ..lol....get too much mist and cloud cover here ..just purchased a tal-1 telescope 2 weeks ago and last night was the first time i managed to look to the skies...Mars and Saturn i was viewing..mars was a bit disapointing expected more was just a tiny little orangey/red disk too small to see details..Saturn was great ..the rings the cassini div detail of slight cloud belts...looks like it could be another good night so i preparing for another nite of viewing,,hope its clear were you are too..i`m not too far from the costa del Blackpool ..lol...Phil
Yes Philbod, it's always worth remembering that Mars is only about half the size of Earth, so it's always going to be on the small side, even in larger scopes. But detail can be seen with the higher power and the right aperture. It's cool seeing the northern polar cap :-)
Saturn's great to look at, and the more time you spend at the eyepiece the more detail seem to spring into view. Great job seeing cloud detail and the Cassini Division, but the cloud belts on Saturn are much more subdued than on Jupiter.
