Celestron astromaster 130eq?
  • hi,i have the chance of getting a second hand celestron astromaster 130eq scope,in as new condition, as a present for my nephew.does anyone have one?what are they like?i have seen on forums some of the celestrons having problems with the cogs on the motor drive{plastic}i have seen mixed reviews on other sites,any comments,would be a huge help

    I have the celestron astromaster 130eq without the motor drive.It's ok for viewing the planets & moon but have had alot off trouble with the finder scope.Needs alot off patients before it lines up properly.

  • thanks, i,m getting my young nephew into astronomy,i have used the starfinder in the past :-O ,do you have to use the motor drive or can it be disabled,i will have to find out
  • You can disable the drive very easy to do. The red-dot finder scope is pants
    i used a 10x30 meade finder on mine from ebay s/h £11 a lot better

  • thanks karl,tried the scope out this morning,got to change the red dot finder for him,its a nightmare.and going to get him a better eyepiece
  • hi karl,just fitted, a 6x30finderscope,with diagonal,made a bracket,and fixed it to the piggyback camera mount.sorted,we can now find objects in the sky,first time,and more accurately,now to get him a better eyepiece.warlock

  • hi karl,picked him {us}up.lol.an alder optic17mm,w/a eyepiece s/h£14,99.and a set of filters,moon,and planet.tried it out quickly last night,very good,but then clouded over,need the long cold winter nights,i will let you know how this scope eyepiece combo,performs,when we have used it more,we will also be buying a celestron zoom eyepiece,for him for xmas.thanks for the advice,untill recently,it has been years since i had a scope,so we are learning again.just need the clear skies.
