Wow .. at last the weather has cleared and I had a brilliant view of the crescent of Venus ... even got the wife interested. Also, my first look at Saturn. I could clearly see the rings and one of its moons. Hope the weather stays fine for the week end. Good luck out there ....
HI Slartybartfast, it does look a bit strange when you first see the crescent of an object that isn't actually the Moon.
Great job seeing Saturn for the first time, the Moon you very likely saw was Titan, an amazing place that is actually just like a planet. It has vast lakes, rivers, clouds, rain, wind, shorelines, deltas...
...although the rain isn't the same rain we all know and love here on Earth, it's methane rain.
Titan is one of the places in the solar system that potentially could have life, or the conditions for it.
Astronomy gives you the chance to see this stuff live, with your very own eyes !
