Hey everyone :) Matt here, for a few days at the beggining of June , me and my band are going camping on the northyorkshire Moors and ill be taking a camera for some astrophotography :) but i was just wondering if any of you know a really good place that we can drive to , to camp where there are amazing skies and easy access to ? So basically somewhere where you can set the sat nav to and drive and set up without searching and searching ? :) Thankyou everyone hope you all can help :) x
U need to get into the southern section of the Moors as the sky glow from the area around the Tees mouth[my parents live in Seaton Carew amid that glow!]is very bad infact its almost a continous glow from Loftus to Blyth,Northumberland.Try for the area south of the Esk,mind u it wont get dark till really late at that[this]time of year about 2300 here in Oxford for full dark yesterday.
Sutton Banks very steep and has places along it but I dont know if its legal to light fires along it.They dont like fires on the Moors as it set the heather alight if its dry.Too close to a road a fire would attract passing undesirables too!
Try somewhere nr.Westerdale thatd be dark guessing a dips better to hide the light pollution in the distance. The Yorkshire Dales would be good and better still the north Pennines out beyond Barnard Castle and Stanhope but it all depends where you are based.
