09/03/12 out in the earlier hours using my telescope and witnessed an object 'belting' across the sky and it was made all the more spetacular as it travelled right under a virtually full moon and showed up a spectacular trail!by the time i could get to any sort camera all that was left was a less impressive trail!anyway as anyone else here been witness to this?was it a meteor?intrested to hear anyone elses thoughts!
Wow, a lucky sighting you had there. Yes it would have been a meteor.
Love those odd random meteors that shoot across the sky when you're not expecting, they're the icing on the cake when out sky watching and really add to the experience!
it was pretty amazing, and travelling at some speed!as i say the full moon really emphesized it...really made my night!
Look out for the Lyrids coming up in April
Ive seen two very impressive random meteors in the last couple of years. All the better because theyre not expected, and the fact that you were just in the right place to witness them makes it even more impressive. The most recent one passed over my back garden just as I was leaving my scope to go indoors for a coffee. If I ahd headed in a few seconds earlier or not looked up, I would have missed it. Pretty amazing when you think about it.
Yeah i was also packing my gear away!As it was early hours i also thought to myself that i was very lucky to have been there at that time and thought not that many people would have witnessed it too!
Just as a matter of interest what kind of scope are you using?
