Birthday list!
  • Hi
Im a newbie who got a Skywatcher 8 inch dob at Christmas. Got a birthday coming up in a few weeks and keep getting asked what I would like. Thinking of asking for some filters and a couple of eyepieces. Would be greatful of any advise as to what kind I would get most use out of. Not looking at the high end, roughly between £20 to£40 per item.
    Cheers
  • Hi dooleyblue,
I also have a Skywatcher 8 inch dob. The first thing I bought was a 6.3mm Plossl which gives me a mag of 190. Great for planetary details when the 'seeing' is ok.
I already had a Barlow lens which triples the magnification of the 25mm and 10mm which came with the scope. The only other item I have purchased is a Skywatcher UHC filter which really brings out the beauty of some types of nebulae like the Veil nebula. It also makes an appreciable difference to viewing planetary nebulae. All of these items retailed for about £40 or less. Hope this helps mate!
  • Cheers Bob
I had looked at the 6.3 plossl, but good call on the UHC filter. May add a Moon filter on to the list as well as after viewing for about 10 minutes last night I was bumping into the furniture when I came in.
    Cheers again, great help
