Completely Brand New!
  • Hi all I am completely new to this forum and the subject - I have a Celestron Travelscope 70 refractor as a birthday present on Friday and have since been looking upwards!! I have found what I believe to be Jupiter and Venus although through the telescope they very much look like the moon - is this correct??!!!!

  • Hi pam Welcome
I,m no expert . Venus will show a cresent like the moon , Jupiter though should show a disc with upto 4 moons which you will see as pin pricks or stars more or less in a line which will move over time. I hope this is of some help if not post again they are nice bunch here someone usualy gets back to you in 2 or 3 days. Keep looking up Colin
  • Hi Pam, for starters you should also try looking at the Seven Sisters star cluster, and maybe even the Sword of Orion/Orion Nebula.

See how to find them here http://astronomycentral.co.uk/the-night-sky-with-binoculars-tonight

I would also recommend downloading the free planetarium software 'Stellarium' from http://www.stellarium.org/
