Planetary Eyepiece
  • can anyone recommend a good planetary eyepiece for my 8'' scope? my budget would be around £80. im not that interested in plossls. i would like something with a wider FOV.
  • Have you seen the Baader orthoscopic range of eyepieces Stephen? They seem to get good reviews for planetary use, maybe not quite as large a FOV as you're looking for. But in your price range.
  • 26mm for jupiter and its moons
  • i was checking out the baader orthos and although they look very good they may not be suitable for me as i wear glasses, any other ideas?
  • I use a 32mm wide field eyepiece for planetary viewing and if I need a closer view I just use a x2 or x3 barlow. Something like a ExtraFlatTM 1.25" Eyepieces

  • would you say these are a good enough quality eyepiece RayGil?
  • Yes, it's nice to always get the best you can afford, but practically it's not always the best option, from my point of view here in Cumbria you don't get too many chances to actually use them once you put in all the factors, wind, cloud, poor seeing conditions, you could have the best eyepiece in the world, but if you have poor seeing conditions it's kept in the box! I find it's better to have a range of eyepieces, the planetary EP serve a purpose, good all round EP, nice wide field for clusters, and give great views of the moon, and with x2,x3 Barlow give great planetary views of Saturn and Jupiter. But even with an 8" scope you will never achieve the stunning views of Jupiter you often see!
