I am not expecting it to stick out like a sore thumb but i thought it would be fairly easy to spot as its face on to us. Any help would be great.

Has anyone else trained their scope on the new supernova in M95? M95 is located just under Mars at the moment making it really easy to find. The supernova is S.W. of the galaxy core and is the only other pinpoint of light in the vicinity. Its around mag 13 and brightening. They reckon if you have a six inch scope and a dark sky you should be able to see it. I had no problem with my 8" Dob. Cheers

Using these nightly as a EMS helicopter pilot is an awesome experience. Meteors are almost continuous at times.
There is no magnification. I see much that naked eye can't take in, and even perhaps with binoculars. I can see all the way to the horizon if there is no sun or moon or very bright city lights. Now for the question: What large (remember no magnification) fuzzy star did I see this morning just before dawn, very close to south and about 10-15 degrees above the horizon? It really was much bigger in diameter than any star or planet. It was not moving or flashing. Some where in the constellations Crater and Corvus, though because of the vast number of stars illuminated by the goggles there was no way I could identify these. I was in vicinity of Roanoke VA.

You can actually make out the shape, its just amazing that its a whole other galaxy out there in deep space millions of light years away and I can see it from my garden!!

It looks like a fuzzy blob, the right hand point of the W of cassiopeia points to it. If you use averted vision the shape appears :-)

Lovely clear night tonight
